About Therapy Ally

Understanding the Basics

What is Therapy Ally?

Therapy Ally is an AI-powered mental health companion that uses evidence-based therapeutic techniques — including CBT, DBT, IFS, and more — to support you between therapy sessions. It’s available any time you need it, on your phone.

Is Therapy Ally a replacement for therapy?

No. Therapy Ally is a practice companion designed to complement, not replace, your work with a licensed therapist. It helps you apply therapeutic skills between sessions and shows up when your therapist can’t.

What makes Therapy Ally different from other mental health apps?

Therapy Ally is built around structured, evidence-based therapeutic frameworks — not generic wellness content. It’s conversational, adaptive, and designed to feel like working with a warm, knowledgeable companion.

Do I need to be in therapy to use Therapy Ally?

No. Many people use Therapy Ally independently to build skills and process everyday challenges. That said, for serious mental health conditions, we always recommend working with a licensed professional alongside the app.

How It Works

Using the App Day to Day

How do I get started with Therapy Ally?

Download the app from the App Store, create an account, and start a conversation. Ally will ask a few questions to understand your goals and begin tailoring support to you. There’s no lengthy onboarding — you can be having a real conversation within minutes.

What can I talk to Ally about?

Anything that’s weighing on you — anxious thoughts, relationship difficulties, low mood, stress, or patterns you want to change. Ally meets you where you are and guides the conversation using relevant therapeutic techniques.

Can Ally remember past conversations?

Yes. Therapy Ally builds a picture of your patterns, goals, and progress over time so that support becomes more personalized the more you use it. You can also review and reflect on past conversations within the app.

How often should I use Therapy Ally?

There’s no required frequency. Some people check in daily; others use Ally when something specific comes up. Research suggests consistent practice of therapeutic skills produces more durable benefit, so regular use is encouraged.

Privacy & Security

Your Data Is Yours

Are my conversations with Ally private?

Completely. Your conversations are end-to-end encrypted and never shared with anyone — including your therapist, employer, or insurance provider. Therapy Ally’s privacy-first architecture was a design requirement from day one, not an afterthought.

Does my therapist see what I write in Therapy Ally?

No. Unless you choose to share something with your therapist yourself, they have no access to your conversations. The app is intentionally designed this way so you feel completely free to speak openly.

Is my data used to train AI models?

Not without your explicit consent. We will never use your personal conversations to train AI models unless you actively opt in to a research program. Your data belongs to you.

Does Therapy Ally share data with third parties?

No. We do not sell or share your personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties. Our business model is built on subscription revenue, not data monetization.

Using Therapy Ally

Getting the Most From Your Practice

What therapeutic modalities does Therapy Ally use?

Therapy Ally draws on CBT, DBT, IFS, ACT, and mindfulness-based approaches. The modality adapts to the conversation and what you’re working on.

Can I use Therapy Ally in a crisis?

Therapy Ally is not a crisis service. If you’re experiencing a mental health emergency, please contact a crisis line or go to your nearest emergency room. Ally can help with grounding techniques during difficult moments, but it is not a substitute for emergency care.

Can I share insights from Therapy Ally with my therapist?

Absolutely — and we encourage it. You can review your conversations and reflections within the app and share anything you find valuable. Many people find that Therapy Ally helps them arrive at sessions with more clarity about what they want to work on.

Technical & Access

Availability and Compatibility

What devices does Therapy Ally work on?

Therapy Ally is currently available as an iOS app on the App Store. It works on any iPhone running iOS 16 or later. An Android version is in development.

Is there a free version of Therapy Ally?

Yes. Therapy Ally offers a free trial so you can experience the app before committing to a subscription. After the trial period, a subscription is required for unlimited access.

Does Therapy Ally work without an internet connection?

An internet connection is required to have conversations with Ally, as responses are generated in real time. Some features like reviewing past reflections may be available offline.

For Therapists

Supporting Your Clients Between Sessions

Can my clients use Therapy Ally alongside our sessions?

Yes — and many therapists actively recommend it. Therapy Ally is designed to be a between-session practice tool that reinforces the skills and frameworks you use in your clinical work. It doesn’t replace the therapeutic relationship; it extends its reach.

Will Therapy Ally undermine the work I do with my clients?

No. Therapy Ally is explicitly designed to complement professional care. It does not make diagnoses, recommend treatment changes, or operate outside its scope as a practice companion. Clients who practice between sessions often show faster progress and arrive more prepared.

Is there a clinician version of Therapy Ally?

Yes. We offer a Clinician Console that gives mental health professionals a separate dashboard to monitor client engagement and access clinical insights — only if the client has explicitly opted in to sharing. Sign up for early access at our clinician portal.

How do I recommend Therapy Ally to my clients?

Simply direct them to the App Store and suggest they download Therapy Ally. There’s no referral process required. Many clinicians frame it as a between-session practice tool for applying the techniques covered in therapy.
